The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 9661616PEPLF is a lead-free bronze pack joint adapter designed to connect a 1-inch female iron pipe (FIP) thread to a 1-inch pack joint (PEP) fitting for polyethylene pipe systems. Cast from lead-free bronze, this adapter meets modern potable water compliance requirements and holds up in buried and exposed service environments. It measures approximately 3.35 inches tall, 2.55 inches long, and 2.15 inches wide, weighing 1.16 pounds. The pack joint end provides a secure, compression-style mechanical connection without soldering, making field installation straightforward for licensed plumbers working on water service or gas distribution lines.
This adapter is used in residential and light commercial plumbing applications where polyethylene pipe transitions to a threaded iron pipe connection. Typical install scenarios include water service entry points, meter sets, and below-grade distribution runs where PE pipe terminates at a threaded valve, meter flange, or manifold. The FIP end threads directly onto standard NPT male fittings, while the pack joint end accepts polyethylene pipe without additional tooling beyond basic hand tools and a pipe cutter.
Designed for use with polyethylene (PE) pipe in residential and commercial water service applications. Connects 1-inch FIP threaded fittings to 1-inch polyethylene pipe via pack joint (PEP) connection.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with local plumbing codes and the IPC. Shut off the water supply and depressurize the line before making any connections. Thread the FIP end onto a clean, undamaged male NPT fitting using an appropriate pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape; do not overtighten. Insert the polyethylene pipe into the pack joint end to the full depth mark and tighten the compression nut per standard pack joint procedure.
