The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 9642FL6 is a 6-inch nominal flanged wye strainer designed to remove particulate and debris from piping systems before that material reaches downstream equipment such as pumps, meters, control valves, and heat exchangers. The body is ductile iron construction, offering high tensile strength and impact resistance in demanding commercial and industrial installations. The straining element is stainless steel mesh, which resists corrosion and holds up through repeated cleanout cycles. At 95.61 pounds, this is a heavy-duty inline component sized for large-diameter piping runs. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors are the primary installers.
This strainer is intended for large-diameter commercial and industrial piping systems where a 6-inch flanged connection is required. Typical applications include chilled water loops, condenser water lines, hydronic heating systems, process water lines, and other fluid handling systems where protecting downstream equipment from debris is a maintenance priority. The flanged end connections allow for bolted installation directly into existing flanged piping runs, making removal and screen cleaning straightforward during scheduled maintenance intervals.
Designed as an OEM-style flanged wye strainer for use in 6-inch nominal ductile iron piping systems in commercial and industrial mechanical applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC and local mechanical codes. Isolate and fully depressurize the piping system and drain the line before installing or removing the strainer. Orient the strainer body so the screen leg points downward to allow debris to collect away from flow and to facilitate cleanout. Use appropriate flange gaskets and fasteners rated for the system pressure and fluid type, and verify all bolts are torqued per the flange gasket manufacturer guidelines rather than a fixed specification.
