The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 9640RT4 is a 4-inch nominal push-on gate valve designed for full-bore shutoff in water distribution and municipal piping systems. Built with a ductile iron body, this valve provides the strength and impact resistance needed for buried or underground service. The non-rising stem design keeps the operating nut flush with grade, making it well suited for below-grade installations where vertical stem travel would be a liability. An operating nut is included for use with a standard valve key. Licensed plumbers and waterworks contractors are the typical installers for this class of valve.
This gate valve is configured with RT x RT (restrained push-on) end connections at 4 inches nominal, making it compatible with standard push-on piping systems used in water main and distribution line work. The ductile iron construction is standard for municipal waterworks applications and meets the demands of both residential subdivision mains and light commercial site utility installations. The non-rising stem keeps above-grade clearance requirements minimal, which is an advantage in valve box or vault installations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation gate valve for 4-inch RT x RT push-on ductile iron piping systems commonly used in waterworks and municipal water distribution applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or waterworks contractor in accordance with local codes and AWWA standards. Depressurize and isolate the line before making any connections. Verify that push-on joint restraint is achieved per the pipe manufacturer's assembly instructions before backfilling. Do not overtighten the operating nut during valve exercising.
