The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 9640FL6 is a 6-inch nominal ductile iron gate valve with flanged x flanged end connections. Designed for full-bore, on/off flow isolation in industrial and commercial piping systems, this valve features a non-rising stem design that conserves overhead clearance in tight installations. An operating nut and hand wheel are included, giving operators two actuation options depending on access and torque requirements. The ductile iron body provides superior impact resistance and tensile strength compared to cast iron, making it suitable for demanding waterworks, HVAC, and process piping applications. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors are the primary installers.
The 9640FL6 is suited for commercial and industrial installations where a reliable, full-port shutoff is required in flanged piping systems. Common applications include water distribution mains, HVAC chilled and hot water headers, fire protection system isolation, and general industrial process lines. The flanged x flanged configuration allows it to bolt directly into existing flanged pipe runs without modification. Its 114.222-pound construction reflects the robust wall thickness expected of a 6-inch ductile iron valve in pressure-rated service.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation gate valve for flanged ductile iron piping systems with a 6-inch nominal pipe size.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable mechanical and plumbing codes. Isolate and depressurize the piping system completely before removing any existing valve or breaking a flanged connection. Verify flange bolt-circle pattern and pressure class rating of mating flanges before installation. Use appropriate gaskets rated for the service fluid and pressure, and torque flange bolts in a star pattern per standard piping practice.
