The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 948176L is a 1-1/2-inch brass ball valve with a locking handle, designed for shutoff and flow-control service in commercial and industrial piping systems. It features a male pipe thread (MPT) inlet and a female pipe thread (FPT) outlet, with a rated working pressure of 600 psi WOG (water, oil, gas) and an operating temperature range of -20 to 300 degrees F. The body, stem, and ball are all brass construction, with PTFE seat, PTFE seal, and PTFE packing for dependable, low-friction operation. The steel locking handle prevents accidental operation in controlled-access or high-consequence service points. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this valve in applications where tamper resistance or lockout/tagout compliance is required.
This valve is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing, hydronic heating, compressed air, and general fluid-handling systems where a 1-1/2-inch threaded connection is specified. The MPT x FPT configuration allows it to be threaded directly into an existing female-port fitting on the inlet side while accepting a male fitting on the outlet side. The locking handle is well suited for mechanical rooms, rooftop units, and utility shutoffs where valve position must be secured. Thread size is 1-1/2-11-1/2 NPT. Note that this product contains lead and may not be suitable for potable water service in all jurisdictions - verify local code requirements before installation.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation ball valve for 1-1/2-inch NPT threaded piping systems in plumbing, hydronic, compressed-air, and general fluid-service applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC or local plumbing code requirements. Shut off and depressurize the system fully before removing any existing valve or making threaded connections. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to all male threads before assembly; do not overtighten, as brass threads can be damaged. Confirm local potable-water lead-content regulations before installing in any drinking-water supply line.
