The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 940523 is a Class 150 wye-pattern strainer designed to remove particulate and debris from liquid pipelines in commercial and residential plumbing, HVAC hydronic, and industrial fluid systems. The body is C85700 brass with a matching brass bonnet and end cap, and the strainer element is 304 stainless steel mesh. Female pipe thread (FPT) connections on both inlet and outlet simplify installation into standard threaded pipe systems. Rated at 250 psi WOG and 180 degrees F maximum operating temperature, this strainer handles a broad range of water, oil, and gas service conditions. A 3/8 in FPT plug at the bottom of the screen chamber allows for periodic cleanout without removing the strainer from the line.
The 940523 is suited for insertion into 1/2 in threaded pipeline runs where protecting downstream equipment such as control valves, meters, solenoids, or pumps from debris is required. Typical installation scenarios include hydronic heating and cooling circuits, water service lines, and light industrial fluid handling. The compact wye geometry fits into tight spaces where in-line or basket-type strainers may not. This strainer is installed by licensed plumbers or HVAC mechanics during new construction or retrofit service work.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation wye-pattern strainer for 1/2 in FPT threaded pipeline systems in Class 150 service applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified HVAC mechanic in accordance with applicable IPC or IFGC codes. Shut off and depressurize the line completely before threading the strainer into place. Apply thread sealant appropriate for the service fluid to all FPT connections. Orient the strainer so the screen leg points downward or at an angle to allow debris to collect at the cleanout plug for easier servicing.
