The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 839249 is a Schedule 80 PVC reducer bushing designed to transition from a 2-inch male pipe thread (MPT) on the outer end to a 1-inch female pipe thread (FPT) on the inner end. Built from rigid PVC with a 1-11-1/2 thread form, this bushing handles a rated temperature up to 140 degrees F, making it suitable for cold and cool-temperature liquid service in residential and commercial plumbing systems. At 0.2 pounds, the fitting is compact and lightweight, measuring 2.7 inches in length and 2.5 inches in height. Licensed plumbers install this type of bushing when reducing a larger-diameter threaded port down to a smaller line connection without cutting into existing pipe runs.
This reducer bushing is used in Schedule 80 PVC threaded piping systems where a size reduction is needed at a threaded joint. Typical applications include irrigation manifolds, chemical distribution lines, water treatment systems, and industrial fluid handling setups where Schedule 80 wall thickness is specified for added pressure resistance. The MPT x FPT configuration allows the bushing to thread directly into a female-threaded fitting, valve, or equipment port while accepting a smaller male-threaded pipe or nipple on the interior side.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation component for Schedule 80 PVC threaded piping systems using standard NPT connections.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable IPC or local plumbing code requirements. Shut off and depressurize the line before removing any existing fittings. Apply thread sealant tape or compound rated for PVC and plastic fittings to the male threads before engagement. Do not over-torque PVC threaded fittings, as excessive force can crack the fitting body.
