The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 830251 is a Schedule 80 PVC reducing coupling designed to connect a 2-inch female pipe thread (FPT) inlet to a 1-1/2-inch FPT outlet in pressurized plumbing systems. Built from Schedule 80 PVC, this fitting offers heavier wall thickness and greater pressure resistance compared to Schedule 40 equivalents, making it appropriate for industrial, commercial, and demanding residential plumbing applications. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of reducer coupling when a pipeline must step down in diameter while maintaining threaded connections on both ends. The thicker PVC construction provides corrosion resistance in chemical and water service environments where metal fittings are not suitable.
This reducing coupling is used in Schedule 80 PVC piping systems where a diameter transition from 2 inches to 1-1/2 inches is required. Typical applications include water treatment, irrigation headers, chemical distribution lines, and commercial plumbing installations. Its all-FPT configuration allows it to thread directly onto male-threaded pipe or fittings on both sides without additional adapters, simplifying installation in tight configurations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 80 PVC threaded piping systems requiring a 2-inch to 1-1/2-inch FPT reducing connection.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and IPC guidelines. Shut off and depressurize the line completely before removing existing fittings or threading in new components. Use PTFE thread tape or an approved thread sealant on all male threads before assembly, and hand-tighten followed by wrench tightening to avoid over-torquing PVC threads, which can crack the fitting. Do not apply open flame or heat tools to PVC fittings during installation.
