The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 79781 is an aluminum half coupling designed for threaded pipe connections in fluid and gas distribution systems. Featuring a 3-1/2 inch female pipe thread (FPT) connection with a 3-1/2-8 thread specification, this fitting provides a secure, single-end threaded socket for joining or terminating pipe runs. The lightweight aluminum construction resists corrosion and reduces overall system weight compared to steel alternatives. Half couplings are typically installed by licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors working on industrial, commercial, or process piping systems where a branch connection or pipe-end closure is required.
The 79781 half coupling is suited for use in aluminum piping systems across a range of applications including compressed air distribution, low-pressure fluid transfer, and process piping in commercial and light industrial environments. Its FPT connection accepts standard male-threaded pipe ends, making it compatible with common threaded pipe assemblies in the 3-1/2 inch nominal size range. This fitting is appropriate for above-ground installations where aluminum is an acceptable material per the applicable system design specification.
Designed as an OEM-style threaded fitting for use with 3-1/2 inch nominal aluminum or compatible threaded pipe systems in commercial and industrial piping assemblies.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable mechanical and plumbing codes such as the IPC or IFGC. Depressurize and drain the piping system fully before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to male threads before engagement; do not overtighten, as aluminum threads are susceptible to galling and cross-threading. Verify that aluminum fittings are permitted by the system design specification and that dissimilar-metal contact is addressed where required.
