The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 77597 is a copper sweat reducing tee fitting designed for use in professional plumbing and mechanical piping systems. It features two 6-inch sweat (C) connections on the run and a 2-inch sweat (C) connection on the branch outlet, allowing a single fitting to transition flow from a main run to a reduced branch line. Fabricated from copper, this tee is suited for potable water, hydronic heating, and general plumbing distribution applications. Licensed plumbers and mechanical contractors are the primary installers of this fitting in both new construction and retrofit projects. At 11.9 pounds, this is a heavy-duty fitting built for full-size commercial or large residential piping runs.
This reducing tee is used in large-diameter copper piping systems where a branch takeoff at a reduced size is required. Common applications include main distribution lines in commercial buildings, boiler and chiller piping, hydronic radiant systems, and domestic water mains. The 6 in x 6 in x 2 in configuration is appropriate when a significant size reduction is needed at the branch connection without altering the main run diameter. The copper sweat connection type requires soldering at all three joints during installation.
Designed as an OEM-style copper sweat fitting compatible with standard Type K, Type L, or Type M copper tubing at 6-inch and 2-inch nominal sizes following sweat solder-joint connection methods.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber following applicable local plumbing codes and IPC guidelines. Shut off and fully drain the water supply before cutting into any existing line. All three sweat connections must be properly cleaned, fluxed, and soldered using appropriate lead-free solder per code requirements. Do not apply heat to the fitting while any residual water is present in the pipe, as moisture will prevent a sound solder joint from forming.
