The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 77551 is a copper sweat reducing tee designed for use in plumbing and mechanical piping systems. This fitting connects a 2-inch sweat (C) run on the main line to 1-1/2-inch sweat (C) outlets on the branch and opposing run, allowing a controlled reduction in line size within a single fitting. It is fabricated from copper and weighs 1.05 pounds. Plumbers and mechanical contractors install this fitting where a branch takeoff and a run reduction are needed at the same point in a system, eliminating the need for a separate coupling and reducer.
This reducing tee is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing applications, including domestic hot and cold water distribution lines, hydronic heating systems, and general mechanical piping. It is appropriate wherever copper sweat connections are required and the system transitions from a 2-inch main line to 1-1/2-inch branch and run connections. The sweat-joint design is compatible with standard soldering and brazing procedures used on Type K, L, and M copper tube.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for copper sweat piping systems using standard 2-inch and 1-1/2-inch copper tube dimensions.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and IPC guidelines. Shut off and depressurize the supply line and drain standing water from the pipe before cutting and fitting. Clean all mating surfaces with emery cloth and apply flux before soldering per standard copper sweat procedures. Allow the joint to cool completely before restoring system pressure and inspecting for leaks.
