The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 77496 is a copper reducing tee fitting designed for sweat (solder) connections in residential and commercial plumbing and HVAC hydronic systems. It joins two 1-inch copper lines on the run while reducing the branch outlet to 1/2 inch, making it a standard choice for dividing or stepping down flow in a copper distribution system. Rated to 500 psi and suitable for service temperatures from 32 degrees F to 200 degrees F, this fitting handles domestic water supply, hydronic heating loops, and similar copper-pipe applications. Licensed plumbers and HVAC technicians are the typical installers.
This reducing tee is used wherever a copper sweat system requires a branch takeoff at a smaller diameter than the main run. Common install scenarios include residential potable water distribution, radiant heating supply and return manifolds, and light commercial plumbing rough-in work. The C x C x C connection designation means all three ports accept standard copper tubing joined by soldering, with no threads or press fittings involved. Its compact profile - 2.55 inches wide and 1.75 inches long - fits standard stud-bay and joist-bay clearances.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and new-installation fitting for copper sweat plumbing and hydronic systems using standard 1-inch and 1/2-inch copper tubing per ASTM B88 sizing conventions.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or qualified HVAC technician following applicable IPC or local plumbing code requirements. Shut off and depressurize the water system completely before cutting into existing lines, and ensure all pipe ends are fully deburred and cleaned before applying flux and solder. Use lead-free solder and flux for any potable water application as required by code. Inspect the joint for full, even solder flow around the entire fitting socket before restoring pressure.
