The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 77489 is a copper reducing tee fitting designed for sweat (solder) connections in residential and light commercial plumbing and hydronic systems. It transitions a 3/4-inch run down to 1/2-inch branches, allowing flow to be split or redirected within a copper distribution line. Rated to 500 psi and suitable for service temperatures from 32 degrees F to 200 degrees F, this fitting handles standard domestic water supply and low-pressure hydronic applications. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting using standard copper sweat technique.

The 77489 is used wherever a main 3/4-inch copper water line needs to branch into two 1/2-inch copper lines. Common applications include domestic hot and cold water distribution, radiant heating supply and return branches, and potable water rough-in work. Its all-copper construction makes it compatible with copper tube systems following standard sweat fitting practice. At 0.95 inches in height and 2.3 inches in length, it fits into tight spaces in wall and ceiling rough-in conditions.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or qualified pipefitter using standard copper sweat soldering tools and lead-free solder per applicable plumbing codes including the IPC. Shut off and drain the water supply completely before cutting into an existing line. Clean all mating surfaces with emery cloth and apply flux before soldering to ensure a leak-free joint. Do not apply heat directly to the fitting body longer than necessary to draw solder fully into the joint.
