The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 77371 is a copper sweat reducer coupling used to transition between two different pipe sizes in a plumbing or HVAC piping system. It connects a 3-inch fitting end to a 2-inch fitting end using a standard sweat (solder) joint on both sides. At 1.05 pounds, this is a solid copper fitting suited for permanent installations. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of coupling when a line size reduction is required within a run of copper pipe, such as when branching from a main supply line to a smaller distribution line.
This reducer is appropriate for residential and light commercial plumbing, hydronic heating, and refrigeration piping applications where copper sweat connections are specified. It is used wherever a 3-inch copper line must be reduced to a 2-inch copper line in a single inline fitting. Standard sweat fitting preparation applies: cut square, deburr, clean, flux, and solder to applicable code requirements.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for copper sweat piping systems requiring an inline 3-inch to 2-inch reducing coupling.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and IPC standards. Shut off and drain the water or fluid supply completely before cutting into any existing line. Clean all mating surfaces with emery cloth or a pipe cleaning brush, apply flux evenly, and solder with appropriate lead-free solder per code requirements. Allow the joint to cool fully before restoring system pressure.
