The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 77359 is a copper reducer coupling designed to connect two different pipe sizes in a sweat-soldered plumbing system. It transitions from a 1-1/2 inch fitting connection on one end to a 3/4 inch sweat (C) connection on the other, making it a reliable solution for downsizing copper lines in both residential and light commercial applications. Rated to 400 psi and suitable for operating temperatures from 32 degrees F to 200 degrees F, this coupling handles the demands of domestic water distribution and hydronic piping. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers of this fitting.
This reducer coupling is used wherever copper supply or distribution lines require a step-down in pipe diameter. Typical install scenarios include branch takeoffs from main water lines, connection points at fixtures or equipment, and rework situations where existing copper lines of mismatched sizes must be joined. The 1-1/2 inch to 3/4 inch size reduction is common in residential domestic water systems and light commercial plumbing retrofits.
Designed as an OEM-style sweat-solder reducer coupling for copper pipe systems requiring a transition from 1-1/2 inch to 3/4 inch diameter lines.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber using standard copper sweat-soldering tools including a torch, flux, and lead-free solder in accordance with applicable plumbing codes such as the IPC. Shut off the water supply and fully drain the line before cutting and fitting. Ensure pipe ends are clean, deburred, and properly fluxed before applying heat. Do not overheat the fitting, as excessive heat can compromise the joint integrity.
