The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 77285 is a copper sweat reducing coupling used to connect two sections of copper pipe where the line size steps down from 3 inches to 2 inches. Fabricated from copper, this fitting is designed for sweat (solder) connections on both ends, making it a standard choice for plumbers working on residential and commercial water distribution, HVAC condensate lines, and hydronic piping systems. At 0.9 pounds, the fitting is sized for inline reducer applications where a secure, leak-free transition between pipe diameters is required.
This reducing coupling is suited for use in potable water supply lines, recirculation loops, drain and vent stacks where copper is specified, and mechanical room piping where line sizes change between mains and branches. It is commonly installed during new construction rough-in or during retrofit work when upsizing or downsizing existing copper runs. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers for this type of fitting.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-use reducing coupling for 3-inch to 2-inch copper sweat piping systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and IPC guidelines. Shut off the water supply and fully drain the line before cutting and soldering. Clean both the fitting sockets and pipe ends with emery cloth, apply appropriate flux, and use lead-free solder where required by code. Allow the joint to cool completely before restoring system pressure.
