The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 77278 is a copper sweat reducing coupling used to transition between two different pipe diameters in a copper water or hydronic piping system. It accepts a 2-inch connection on one end and a 3/4-inch connection on the other, allowing a plumber or pipefitter to reduce line size within a run without additional fittings. The coupling is made from copper and is designed for soldered sweat connections. At 0.41 pounds, it is a compact, single-piece fitting suited for both residential and light commercial installations.
This reducing coupling is used wherever a copper supply or distribution line steps down from 2 inches to 3/4 inch. Typical applications include domestic water supply systems, hydronic heating distribution branches, and recirculation lines. It is installed by licensed plumbers and pipefitters working on new construction or retrofit projects where pipe sizing changes are required at a junction or branch takeoff point.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard installation fitting for copper sweat piping systems requiring a 2-inch to 3/4-inch reduction.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and IPC guidelines. Shut off the water supply and fully drain the line before cutting and fitting. Clean and flux both the pipe ends and the fitting sockets before soldering to ensure a leak-free joint. Do not apply heat unevenly or overheat the fitting during the sweat process, as this can compromise the solder joint integrity.
