The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 77142 is a 90-degree long-turn elbow designed for copper sweat (solder) connections in pressurized plumbing and HVAC refrigerant piping systems. It connects 3/8-inch copper tubing on both ends using standard sweat-joint methodology. The long-turn radius reduces turbulence and flow restriction compared to a standard short-radius elbow, making it the preferred choice where fluid dynamics or refrigerant flow efficiency matters. Rated to 500 psi and suitable for service between 32 and 200 degrees F, this fitting handles domestic water, hydronic, and light refrigerant line applications. Licensed plumbers and HVAC technicians are the primary installers.
This fitting is used in residential and light commercial plumbing, hydronic heating, and HVAC refrigerant line sets where a 90-degree directional change in 3/8-inch copper tubing is required. The long-turn geometry is especially well suited to systems where minimizing pressure drop through the elbow is a design priority, such as chilled water lines, refrigerant suction lines, and recirculating hot-water systems. It is installed wherever copper tube is joined by sweat soldering.
Designed as an OEM-style sweat fitting for use with 3/8-inch copper tubing in standard plumbing, hydronic, and HVAC piping installations where sweat-joint connections are specified.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or HVAC technician using standard sweat-soldering tools including a torch, flux, and lead-free solder in compliance with local plumbing codes and ASTM standards. Shut off and fully depressurize the system and drain all standing water or refrigerant from the line before cutting and fitting. Ensure the tubing ends are deburred, cleaned, and fluxed before inserting into the fitting cup for proper solder flow. Do not exceed the rated pressure or temperature limits of the fitting.
