The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 77140 is a 90-degree long-turn elbow fitting manufactured from wrot copper for use in copper sweat (solder-joint) plumbing and HVAC refrigerant piping systems. The long-turn radius reduces flow restriction compared to standard elbows, making it well suited for applications where pressure drop and flow efficiency matter. Rated to 500 psi and serviceable across a temperature range of 32 degrees F to 200 degrees F, this fitting handles the demands of typical residential and light commercial installations. Both ends are 1/4 inch copper sweat connections. At 0.02 pounds, it is a compact, lightweight component installed by licensed plumbers and HVAC technicians.
This fitting is used wherever a 90-degree directional change is required in a 1/4 inch copper sweat line. Common applications include refrigerant suction and liquid lines, potable water distribution, hydronic tubing, and other copper piping systems requiring a smooth, low-resistance turn. The long-turn geometry is preferred in refrigerant circuits to minimize oil trapping and pressure loss. It is appropriate for both residential and light commercial service work.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 1/4 inch copper sweat piping systems in plumbing and HVAC applications.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or HVAC technician using standard soldering tools, flux, and lead-free solder in accordance with applicable plumbing codes such as the IPC or local equivalents. Shut off and depressurize the line completely before cutting and fitting. Clean and flux both the fitting socket and the tube end thoroughly before applying heat to ensure a full, void-free solder joint. Allow the joint to cool before restoring pressure, and pressure-test the completed assembly before returning the system to service.
