The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 706228-0806 is a 90-degree reducing street elbow designed for threaded pipe systems in plumbing and mechanical applications. Forged from lead-free brass, it transitions a 1/2-inch female pipe thread (FPT) inlet to a 3/8-inch male pipe thread (MPT) outlet while changing flow direction 90 degrees. The 1/2-14 x 3/8-18 thread spec and 1-inch hex drive make installation straightforward with standard hand tools. At 0.21 pounds, this compact fitting measures approximately 1.85 inches in length and 1.35 inches in width. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting in both residential and light commercial systems where a directional change and size reduction are needed in a single component.
This elbow is suited for residential and commercial plumbing installations where threaded brass or steel pipe is used. The street elbow configuration - MPT on one end, FPT on the other - allows direct thread-in connection without requiring an additional nipple, saving space in tight installations. Typical applications include water supply lines, gas distribution piping, and mechanical room distribution headers where a 90-degree turn and a step-down from 1/2-inch to 3/8-inch pipe is required.
Designed for use with brass or steel pipe. Suitable as an OEM-style or retrofit reducing street elbow wherever a threaded 1/2-inch FPT x 3/8-inch MPT 90-degree fitting is required.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified pipefitter in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off the water or gas supply and relieve system pressure fully before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly, and tighten using the 1-inch hex with a properly sized wrench - do not over-torque, as brass threads can be damaged. Inspect for leaks after returning the system to service.
