The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 704056-1006 is a SAE 45-degree flare reducing union designed to connect two male flared tube ends of different sizes in refrigeration, HVAC, and plumbing lines. The larger end accepts a 5/8-inch male flared connection with a 7/8-14 thread, while the smaller end accepts a 3/8-inch male flared connection with a 5/8-18 thread. Constructed from lead-free brass, this fitting is rated for temperatures from -40 to 250 degrees F. Plumbers and HVAC technicians install this fitting where a transition between two dissimilar tube diameters is required within a flared-tubing system.
This reducing union is suited for residential and light commercial applications where SAE 45-degree flare connections are specified. It is compatible with aluminum, brass, copper, or steel tubing, making it a versatile choice for refrigerant lines, fuel gas lines, and hydraulic or pneumatic tubing systems. The lead-free brass construction meets requirements for potable water and other regulated applications. It is well-suited for service calls requiring a quick field repair or new installation involving a size transition between flared tube runs.
Compatible with aluminum, brass, copper, or steel tubing using SAE 45-degree flare connections. Designed as a standard flare reducing union for residential and light commercial HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, and fuel line applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or HVAC technician familiar with flared-tubing systems. Shut off all fluid or gas supply and depressurize the line before making or breaking any flare connection. Ensure tubing ends are properly flared to the SAE 45-degree specification before assembly to achieve a leak-free joint. Follow applicable codes including IPC or IFGC depending on the service application.
