The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 704048-0604 is a SAE 45-degree flare half union adapter machined from lead-free brass. It connects a 3/8-inch male flared end to a 1/4-inch male NPTF thread, making it a compact transition fitting for refrigeration, HVAC, and plumbing lines. Thread sizes are 5/8-18 on the flare side and 1/4-18 NPTF on the pipe side. The lead-free brass construction meets modern potable-water and mechanical system standards. Rated for service from -40 degrees F to 250 degrees F, this adapter handles the temperature swings common in residential and light commercial mechanical systems. Licensed plumbers and HVAC technicians are the primary installers.
This adapter is suited for residential and light commercial applications where a SAE 45-degree flare connection must transition to a male NPTF pipe thread. Typical scenarios include refrigerant line connections, fuel gas service lines, and hydraulic or pneumatic tubing assemblies. It is compatible with copper, brass, aluminum, and steel tubing, covering the majority of tube materials found in HVAC, plumbing, and fluid-transfer systems.
Designed for use with copper, brass, aluminum, and steel tubing in SAE 45-degree flare systems requiring a transition to a 1/4-inch male NPTF port.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified HVAC technician. Shut off system pressure and depressurize all lines before disassembly or fitting installation. Hand-tighten the NPTF threads first, then apply appropriate thread sealant or tape as required by local mechanical codes before torquing. Inspect the flare seat and mating tube flare for damage before assembly to ensure a leak-free connection.
