The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 704048-0408 is a lead-free brass SAE 45-degree flare half union adapter designed to connect a 1/4-inch male flared end to a 1/2-inch male NPTF threaded port. It provides a reliable, leak-resistant transition between flared tubing and tapered pipe thread connections commonly found in refrigeration, HVAC, and fuel gas line applications. The fitting is rated for operating temperatures from -40 to 250 degrees F, making it suitable for a wide range of service conditions. Threads are sized at 7/16-20 on the flare end and 1/2-14 on the NPTF end. Lead-free brass construction meets current potable and non-potable system material requirements.
This adapter is used in residential and light commercial installations where copper, brass, aluminum, or steel tubing must terminate at a threaded port on a valve, manifold, or equipment fitting. Typical applications include refrigerant line connections, propane and natural gas distribution, compressed air, and hydraulic systems where a 45-degree SAE flare interface is specified. HVAC technicians, plumbers, and pipefitters install this fitting during new construction and retrofit work alike.
Designed for use with copper, brass, aluminum, and steel tubing in systems requiring an SAE 45-degree male flare to 1/2-inch male NPTF transition. Suitable as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting in HVAC, refrigeration, gas, and fluid piping applications where this flare-to-pipe adapter configuration is specified.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed HVAC technician or plumber. Always depressurize and isolate the system before removing or installing fittings. The flare end requires a properly formed 45-degree SAE flare on the tubing; inspect the flare for cracks or deformation before assembly. Apply thread sealant or tape to NPTF threads per the applicable code or equipment manufacturer guidelines, and torque only to the point of a snug, leak-free connection without over-tightening brass fittings.
