The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 700086-0410 is a lead-free brass sweat adapter that connects a 1/4-inch compression fitting to a 5/8-inch sweat (solder) connection. It is designed for use in plumbing, HVAC refrigerant lines, and related piping systems where a transition between compression and sweat connections is required. The lead-free brass construction meets current safe-drinking-water standards, making it suitable for potable water applications. This fitting handles a temperature range of -40 to 250 degrees F and is compatible with copper, aluminum, or plastic tubing. Licensed plumbers and HVAC technicians are the primary installers.
This adapter is commonly used in residential and light commercial plumbing and HVAC installations where a compression-to-sweat transition is needed. Typical scenarios include connecting supply lines, refrigerant tubing transitions, and repair work on existing copper systems. The 1/4-inch compression side accepts standard tubing with a compression nut and ferrule, while the 5/8-inch sweat end is soldered directly to copper tubing. Its compact profile makes it well-suited for tight spaces behind fixtures and within mechanical chases.
Suitable for use with copper, aluminum, or plastic tubing in plumbing and HVAC piping systems requiring a compression-to-sweat adapter transition.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified HVAC technician in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and the IPC. Shut off the water supply and depressurize the line before beginning work. The sweat end requires standard soldering technique with appropriate flux and lead-free solder; the compression end requires a properly seated ferrule and compression nut. Do not overtighten the compression nut, as brass fittings can be damaged by excessive force.
