The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 69456 is a black malleable iron reducing coupling designed to connect piping systems where a 3-inch female pipe thread (FPT) transitions to a 2-inch FPT. Rated at 300 lb pressure class and designated Extra Heavy (XH) schedule, this fitting handles demanding service conditions across a wide temperature range of -20 to 350 degrees F. Thread dimensions conform to ANSI B1.20.1, ensuring accurate thread form and proper sealing. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting in commercial and industrial piping systems where reducing transitions between threaded iron pipe are required.
This reducing coupling is suited for use in black iron piping systems found in gas distribution, steam, compressed air, and general industrial fluid service applications. The XH 300 lb pressure rating makes it appropriate for higher-pressure installations compared to standard 150 lb malleable iron fittings. It is commonly specified in commercial mechanical rooms, industrial process lines, and any application requiring a code-compliant threaded iron pipe reduction between 3-inch and 2-inch nominal pipe sizes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for black malleable iron threaded piping systems using 3-inch and 2-inch nominal pipe sizes conforming to ANSI B1.20.1 thread standards.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable mechanical and plumbing codes, including IFGC and IPC requirements where relevant. Depressurize and isolate the piping system completely before beginning any threaded fitting work. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service medium to all male threads before assembly. Do not overtighten; use a pipe wrench with a backup wrench on adjacent fittings to avoid stressing the pipe or adjacent joints.
