The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 690406 is a D.O.T.-rated 90-degree male elbow fitting designed for use in compressed air and pneumatic brake line applications. It joins a 1/4-inch push-to-connect port to a 3/8-inch male NPTF threaded connection, allowing a direction change without additional tools on the push-to-connect side. Constructed from forged brass, the fitting is rated to 150 psi and handles temperatures from -40 to 200 degrees F. The 3/8-18 thread pitch meets standard NPTF specifications. With a body size of 0.41 inches and a center-to-end dimension of 1.03 x 0.83 inches, this compact elbow fits tight-space routing situations common in vehicle air brake and pneumatic plumbing installations.
This fitting is used in D.O.T.-compliant air brake systems on trucks, trailers, and other commercial vehicles, as well as in industrial pneumatic plumbing where a push-to-connect port and a male pipe thread port must meet at a 90-degree angle. It is typically installed by fleet maintenance technicians, pneumatic system plumbers, and experienced service professionals who require a reliable, code-compliant elbow at a direction change in the air line. The push-to-connect end accepts standard D.O.T.-approved nylon or polyurethane tubing at 1/4-inch outside diameter.
Designed as a D.O.T.-compliant push-to-connect brass elbow fitting for commercial vehicle air brake lines and industrial pneumatic systems requiring a 1/4-inch push-to-connect port paired with a 3/8-inch male NPTF connection.
Depressurize and drain the air system completely before removing or installing any air brake line fitting. The NPTF threaded end should be installed with the appropriate thread sealant per the system manufacturer and applicable D.O.T. or shop standards. Insert D.O.T.-approved tubing straight into the push-to-connect end until it seats fully; to release, depress the collet ring and withdraw the tube. Inspection of the tube end for cuts or ovality before insertion is standard practice.
