The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 67768 is a hex socket countersunk plug designed to seal threaded pipe openings in black steel piping systems. It connects via a 1-1/2 inch MNPT (male national pipe taper) thread with a 1-1/2-11-1/2 thread designation and is rated for 150 lb pressure class service. Conforming to ASME B16.14-1991 dimensional standards, this plug is manufactured from steel with a black finish. The countersunk hex socket drive allows installation in tight spaces where a standard hex head wrench cannot reach. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this fitting during system testing, commissioning, or permanent port closure.
This plug is suited for residential and commercial black steel pipe installations where a low-profile, flush-mount closure is required. Common applications include gas distribution piping, steam systems, and general industrial piping where the 150 lb pressure class and a working temperature range of -20 to 350 degrees F are appropriate. The countersunk profile sits flush with or below the fitting face, reducing snag points in tight mechanical rooms or confined chases.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard fitting for 1-1/2 inch MNPT black steel pipe systems conforming to 150 lb pressure class requirements per ASME B16.14-1991.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters following applicable IFGC or IPC code requirements for the specific system type. Depressurize and isolate the pipe section fully before installing or removing any threaded plug. Apply appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads per system requirements. Use a properly sized hex key or Allen driver to avoid stripping the 0.1 inch socket; do not use oversized drivers or impact tools on this fitting.
