The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 66477 is a hex cap pipe fitting used to close the end of a female-threaded pipe or fitting. Constructed from steel with a zinc-plated finish for corrosion resistance, this cap threads onto a 1-1/2-inch FNPT connection using a 1-1/2-11-1/2 thread form. It meets ASME B16.14-1991 dimensional standards and is rated for a 150 lb pressure class. The 2-1/4-inch hex profile allows for standard wrench installation. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this fitting on gas, water, air, and steam systems requiring a threaded pipe termination.
This hex cap is suited for residential and commercial pipe installations where a threaded closure is required at a line terminus or service point. The zinc-plated steel construction makes it appropriate for use in galvanized steel piping systems. It is commonly installed during rough-in work, system pressure testing, or when capping off an unused branch connection. The fitting measures 1.35 inches in length and operates across a temperature range of -20 degrees F to 350 degrees F.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-fit component for 1-1/2-inch FNPT galvanized steel pipe systems conforming to ASME B16.14 specifications.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters following applicable IPC or IFGC code requirements for the system type. Depressurize and isolate the pipe section before threading on the cap. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before engagement. Tighten with a pipe wrench to the wrench-flat hex - do not over-tighten, as steel threads can be damaged by excessive force.
