The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 65779 is a black steel merchant coupling designed to join two female-threaded pipe sections in a straight-run configuration. Built to 150-pound malleable iron fitting standards, this coupling accepts 2-1/2-inch FPT connections on both ends with a 2-1/2-8 thread form that conforms to ANSI B1.20.1 dimensional standards. The black steel construction makes it suitable for gas distribution, air, and similar non-potable piping systems. At approximately 1.97 pounds and measuring 3.2 inches in diameter by 3.1 inches in length, it is a compact, full-size fitting for standard pipe assemblies. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters handle installation in both residential and commercial applications.
This merchant coupling is used in black iron pipe systems commonly found in natural gas supply lines, propane distribution, compressed air headers, and similar low-pressure fluid or gas services. The 150-pound malleable fitting rating suits residential and light commercial system pressures. Its equal-end FPT configuration simplifies in-line pipe joining where external wrenching access is available on the coupling body.
Designed as a standard 150-pound black malleable fitting for use with 2-1/2 inch black iron pipe systems in residential and commercial gas, air, and non-potable fluid piping applications.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes, the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC), or the International Plumbing Code (IPC) depending on service type. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before threading or unthreading any fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service medium to all male threads before assembly. Do not over-tighten; use a pipe wrench on the coupling flats and support adjacent piping to avoid stress on connected fittings.
