The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 65543 is a reducer hex bushing designed to step down pipe connections from a 4-inch male pipe thread (MPT) inlet to a 3-inch female pipe thread (FPT) outlet. Constructed from malleable iron with a black finish, this fitting is rated for 150 psi service and handles temperatures from -20 degrees F to 350 degrees F. The hex body allows standard wrench engagement for secure installation. At 2.17 inches in length with a 4.96-inch hex, it is a compact, heavy-duty fitting used by plumbers and pipefitters in gas, air, and water distribution piping systems.
This hex bushing is suited for residential and commercial plumbing and gas piping applications where a pipe size reduction is needed inline. The 4-8 thread specification and malleable iron construction make it appropriate for black iron gas lines, compressed air distribution, and similar low-to-medium pressure piping assemblies. It conforms to ANSI B 16.3 dimensional standards, which are commonly required on commercial and industrial installations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 150-pound rated malleable iron black pipe systems using NPT threaded connections.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters. Shut off and depressurize the piping system completely before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Apply approved thread sealant or PTFE tape to all male threads before assembly in accordance with local mechanical and gas codes. Do not over-tighten; use a pipe wrench on the hex body rather than on adjoining pipe to avoid stress cracking.
