The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 65151 is a 90-degree reducing elbow designed for low-pressure piping systems in commercial and industrial plumbing, gas distribution, and mechanical applications. Cast from malleable iron with a black finish, this fitting connects a 3-inch female pipe thread (FPT) inlet to a 2-1/2-inch FPT outlet, allowing a directional change and pipe reduction in a single fitting. It carries a 150 lb pressure class rating and meets ANSI B16.3 dimensional standards. The 3-8 x 2-1/2-8 thread specification ensures consistent thread engagement with standard NPT pipe. Rated for service from -20 degrees F to 350 degrees F, it suits a broad range of fluid and gas piping services.
This reducing elbow is used in residential and commercial mechanical rooms, industrial piping runs, and gas distribution systems where a 90-degree change in direction and a one-size pipe reduction are required simultaneously. Typical installations include black iron gas piping, steam, air, and water service lines. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians install this fitting as part of Schedule 40 black iron piping assemblies. Its malleable iron construction allows it to withstand the stress of assembly and field adjustments without cracking.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 40 black iron pipe systems using standard NPT threads in 3-inch and 2-1/2-inch pipe sizes, conforming to ANSI B16.3.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber, pipefitter, or qualified HVAC technician in accordance with applicable local mechanical codes, IFGC, or IPC requirements. Shut off and depressurize the pipe system completely before disassembly or fitting installation. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape to male threads before make-up; do not apply sealant to the first two threads. Avoid over-torquing, as excessive force can crack the fitting body or distort threads.
