The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 64655 is a cored square head plug designed for use in threaded pipe systems where a removable, pressure-rated closure is needed. Built from malleable iron with a galvanized finish, this plug features a 1-inch male pipe thread (MPT) connection and a 1-11/2 thread specification. It carries a 150 psi working pressure rating and conforms to ANSI B16.3 dimensional standards. The square head drive allows installation and removal with a standard wrench. At 0.22 pounds, it is compact and straightforward to stock for field use by plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors working on iron pipe systems.
This plug is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing, gas distribution piping, and industrial pipe systems rated at 150 psi or below. It is commonly used to temporarily or permanently close off a 1-inch MPT threaded pipe end during pressure testing, system modifications, or decommissioning of branch lines. The galvanized finish provides corrosion resistance appropriate for exposed or mildly humid environments. The cored design means the center is not fully solid, which is the standard configuration for this fitting class and allows future tapping if required.
Designed as an OEM-style threaded pipe fitting for use in 150-pound class galvanized malleable iron pipe systems with 1-inch MPT threaded connections conforming to ANSI B16.3.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters working on threaded iron pipe systems. Shut off and depressurize the pipe system fully before installing or removing any threaded plug. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before installation, following the applicable International Plumbing Code or International Fuel Gas Code requirements for the service type. Do not overtighten; use a properly sized wrench on the square head and avoid pipe wrenches that may damage the fitting.
