The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 64549 is a malleable iron reducer hex bushing used to step down pipe connections from a 3-inch male pipe thread (MPT) to a 1-1/4-inch female pipe thread (FPT). Finished in galvanized coating for corrosion resistance, this fitting is rated to 150 psi and handles temperatures from -20 to 350 degrees F. The hex body measures 2.39 inches across flats for standard wrench engagement, and the overall length is 1.61 inches. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting in gas, water, and general piping systems where a threaded size reduction is required at a junction point.
This reducer hex bushing is suited for residential and light commercial piping applications where a larger-diameter threaded pipe must connect to a smaller-diameter threaded port or fitting. Typical install scenarios include branch takeoffs, valve inlets, equipment connections, and pipe manifolds. The galvanized finish makes it appropriate for exposed or mildly corrosive environments. It falls within the 150-pound malleable fitting class, conforming to ANSI B 16.3 dimension standards, making it a direct fit wherever that specification is called out.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 150-pound malleable iron galvanized piping systems conforming to ANSI B 16.3, wherever a 3-inch MPT to 1-1/4-inch FPT threaded reduction is required.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable codes such as the International Plumbing Code (IPC) or International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC) depending on the service. Shut off and depressurize the piping system completely before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly. Do not over-tighten; thread engagement should follow standard practices for the pipe size and material.
