The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 64526 is a reducer hex bushing designed to step down from a 2-inch male pipe thread (MPT) to a 1/4-inch female pipe thread (FPT) in low-pressure piping systems. Constructed from malleable iron with a black finish, this fitting handles pressures up to 150 psi and operates across a temperature range of -20 to 350 degrees F. The 1.12-inch hex allows for standard wrench engagement during installation. At 1.29 inches in length, it is a compact, direct-thread fitting suited for gas, air, and fluid distribution lines. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians install this type of fitting when connecting smaller-diameter branch lines or instrumentation ports to larger pipe runs.
This hex bushing is used in residential and light commercial piping applications where a large-diameter pipe or fitting needs to accept a smaller threaded connection. Typical scenarios include reducing a 2-inch pipe outlet to accept a 1/4-inch pressure gauge, petcock, or branch fitting. The malleable iron construction makes it appropriate for gas distribution, compressed air, and steam systems within its rated pressure and temperature limits. It conforms to ANSI B 16.3 dimensional standards, ensuring consistent thread engagement and fitment with standard pipe and fittings of the same specification.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-install fitting for 150-pound malleable iron piping systems conforming to ANSI B 16.3, compatible with standard 2-inch and 1/4-inch NPT pipe and fittings in gas, air, and fluid service applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber, pipefitter, or qualified HVAC technician in accordance with applicable local codes and IFGC or IPC requirements. Shut off and depressurize the line completely before installing or removing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly, and tighten to snug plus wrench-tight using the hex. Do not over-torque malleable iron fittings, as the material can crack under excessive force.
