The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 64463 is a malleable iron reducing coupling designed to connect two female-threaded pipe sections of different diameters in a single inline fitting. It steps down from a 3-inch FPT connection to a 2-1/2-inch FPT connection, making it a practical solution for reducing pipe diameter within a run without additional adapters. Rated at 150 lb pressure class and galvanized for corrosion resistance, this fitting is built for demanding service conditions across a wide temperature range of -20 to 350 degrees F. Plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting in commercial and industrial piping systems where a clean, threaded diameter reduction is required.
This reducing coupling is used in galvanized malleable iron piping systems, typically in commercial plumbing, gas distribution, fire protection, and mechanical piping applications. It is suited for both new construction and retrofit work where a 3-inch line must be reduced to 2-1/2-inch. The fitting threads onto standard NPT-compatible pipe at both ends and is appropriate for above-ground and exposed piping runs where galvanized fittings are specified.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-install fitting for galvanized 150 lb malleable iron piping systems using standard NPT female-threaded connections.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes and ANSI B 16.3 standards. Shut off and depressurize the piping system completely before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly, and tighten to hand-tight plus the number of turns appropriate for the pipe material and size per standard practice. Do not overtighten, as malleable iron fittings can crack under excessive torque.
