The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 64442 is a malleable iron reducing coupling designed to connect two female-threaded pipe ends of different diameters in a pressurized piping system. It steps down from a 1-inch FPT connection to a 3/4-inch FPT connection, making it a standard fitting for branch reductions in water, gas, and general industrial piping. The fitting carries a 150 lb pressure class rating and is galvanized for corrosion resistance. Thread dimensions conform to ANSI B 16.3, with a 1-11-1/2 thread on the larger end and a 3/4-14 thread on the smaller end. Plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting in both residential and commercial applications where a threaded reduction is needed inline.
This reducing coupling is suited for use in galvanized 150 lb malleable iron piping systems. Typical installations include water supply lines, natural gas distribution piping, compressed air systems, and light industrial fluid handling where threaded fittings are specified. The operating temperature range spans from -20 degrees F to 350 degrees F, covering most standard service conditions. It fits directly into existing malleable iron pipe networks without special adapters when the mating pipe threads conform to NPT standards.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-fit component for galvanized 150 lb malleable iron threaded piping systems using NPT connections.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes, IPC, or IFGC requirements depending on the fluid service. Shut off and depressurize the line completely before removing any existing fitting or threading on the new coupling. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before engagement. Do not over-torque the connection; hand-tighten and then use a pipe wrench for a proper, leak-free joint without distorting the fitting.
