The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 64138 is a 90-degree reducing elbow designed for threaded pipe systems in commercial and industrial plumbing, HVAC piping, and general mechanical applications. Cast from malleable iron with a galvanized finish, this fitting changes flow direction while simultaneously stepping down from a 1-1/2-inch female pipe thread (FPT) inlet to a 1-1/4-inch FPT outlet. It carries a 150 lb pressure class rating and is rated for service from -20 degrees F to 350 degrees F. The galvanized coating provides corrosion resistance in wet or humid environments. The center-to-end dimensions measure 1.82 inches by 1.88 inches, keeping the fitting compact in tight mechanical spaces.
This elbow is suited for residential and commercial pipe systems where a directional change and pipe size reduction are needed at a single connection point. Typical applications include water distribution, compressed air lines, gas piping (where code-approved), and hydronic heating loops. It is installed by licensed plumbers and pipefitters working with Schedule 40 or standard-weight threaded pipe runs. The 1-1/2-11-1/2 x 1-1/4-11-1/2 NPT thread specification ensures compatibility with standard tapered pipe threads.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard fitment for 150 lb malleable iron galvanized threaded pipe systems using 1-1/2 in and 1-1/4 in NPT connections.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC or IFGC code requirements for the intended service. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before removing or installing threaded fittings. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly and tighten to a wrench-tight fit - do not overtighten malleable iron fittings, as the material can crack under excessive torque. Verify the fitting is rated for the specific fluid or gas being conveyed before placing the system back in service.
