The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 63761B1 is a barstock hex socket countersunk plug designed to seal off open pipe ends in pressurized fluid and gas systems. Machined from 316 stainless steel, this plug offers strong corrosion resistance in demanding environments including chemical processing, marine, and industrial piping applications. It features a 1/4-inch male NPT thread and is rated to 1000 psi, making it suitable for high-pressure line termination. The countersunk hex socket drive allows installation with a hex key in tight or recessed spaces where a wrench cannot reach. Plumbers, pipefitters, and industrial maintenance technicians install this type of fitting during system assembly, pressure testing, and port plugging.
This plug is intended for use in 1000-pound-class and above pipe systems requiring a stainless steel fitting. Typical applications include closing unused tee or cross ports, sealing instrument taps, and capping lines during pressure testing. The 316 stainless steel construction makes it well suited for corrosive media, saltwater environments, and sanitary piping systems where standard carbon steel fittings would degrade. It is commonly found in commercial and industrial settings across plumbing, HVAC hydronic systems, and process piping.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 1000-pound-class and above 316 stainless steel pipe systems with 1/4-inch female NPT ports.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters in accordance with applicable IPC and IFGC requirements for the system type. Depressurize and drain the line completely before removing or installing any pipe plug. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male NPT threads before installation to ensure a leak-free seal. Do not overtighten, as this can damage the socket drive or cause thread galling common to stainless steel fittings.
