The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 63654B1 is a barstock square head plug designed to close off threaded pipe ends in high-pressure piping systems. Machined from 316 stainless steel, this plug offers strong resistance to corrosion and oxidation, making it suitable for demanding fluid and gas service environments. The 3/4 inch male pipe thread (MPT) connection seats securely into female-threaded fittings or pipe ends. Rated for 1000 to 3000 lb pressure classes, the 63654B1 is appropriate for industrial, commercial, and mechanical piping applications where a reliable, pressure-rated dead-end closure is required. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors are the primary installers of this fitting.
This plug is used in process piping, steam, water, oil, and gas systems where corrosion resistance and high-pressure performance are necessary. Its square head profile accepts a wrench for proper torque during installation, ensuring a leak-free seal on threaded connections. It is commonly installed in industrial plants, refineries, commercial mechanical rooms, and marine environments where 316 stainless steel is specified for its superior chloride resistance compared to 304 stainless. Categorized under 3000 lb barstock fittings, it meets the demands of high-pressure dead-end or test-port closures.
Designed as an OEM-style threaded pipe plug compatible with standard 3/4 inch female NPT threaded fittings, valves, and pipe ends in 1000 lb and 3000 lb class piping systems fabricated from stainless or compatible materials.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified pipefitter in accordance with applicable mechanical and piping codes. Depressurize and isolate the piping system completely before removing or installing any threaded plug. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service fluid and pressure class before threading the plug in by hand, then tighten with a wrench to achieve a leak-free connection. Do not over-stress the threads by applying excessive torque, which can crack fittings or damage thread engagement.
