The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 63460MS is a reducing coupling designed to connect two female NPT-threaded pipe ends of different sizes within a single inline fitting. It steps down from a 1-1/4-inch female NPT port to a 3/8-inch female NPT port, allowing pipe runs to transition between line sizes without additional adapters. Constructed from 316 stainless steel, this fitting resists corrosion in aggressive media including saltwater, mild acids, and chloride-bearing fluids. Thread specifications are 1-1/4-11-1/2 NPT on the large end and 3/8-18 NPT on the small end. Rated at a 150 lb pressure class, it suits a wide range of low- to medium-pressure piping applications. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this type of fitting during new construction and retrofit work.
This reducing coupling fits into residential and commercial piping systems where a line size reduction is needed between threaded pipe segments. Typical applications include process piping, water service lines, chemical handling systems, and marine or coastal installations where corrosion resistance is a priority. The 316 stainless steel construction makes it suitable for environments where standard carbon steel or 304 SS fittings would be vulnerable to pitting or stress corrosion. The compact body dimensions allow installation in tight spaces within mechanical rooms, equipment skids, or under-deck marine plumbing.
Designed as an OEM-style threaded reducing coupling for use in standard female NPT piping systems rated at 150 lb pressure class. Compatible with any Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 threaded pipe run requiring a 1-1/4 in to 3/8 in inline size reduction.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters in compliance with applicable mechanical and plumbing codes such as the IPC or ASME B31.3 for process piping. Shut off and depressurize the piping system fully before removing existing fittings or threading in the new coupling. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male pipe threads being engaged, following the sealant manufacturer's recommendation for the media type. Avoid over-tightening, which can crack fittings or distort threads, particularly when connecting to non-metallic pipe components.
