The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 63438B1 is a barstock reducing coupling machined from 316 stainless steel, designed to connect a 3/4-inch female pipe thread (FPT) line to a 1/2-inch FPT line in a single inline fitting. Rated at 1000 lb pressure class, it handles demanding service conditions across a wide range of fluid and gas media. The 3/4-14 x 1/2-14 thread configuration conforms to standard NPT specifications. At 0.34 pounds, this compact fitting is suited for installations where space and weight are considerations. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors use this coupling to step down pipe diameter within pressurized systems without introducing multiple transition pieces.
This coupling is rated for use with air, water, oil, natural gas, and steam. Its 316 stainless steel construction provides strong resistance to corrosion and elevated temperatures, making it appropriate for both industrial and commercial mechanical systems. Typical applications include process piping, HVAC hydronic systems, compressed air distribution, and steam lines where a reduction from 3/4-inch to 1/2-inch pipe is required. The 1000 lb pressure class rating supports high-pressure service environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for pressurized piping systems requiring a 3/4 in FPT to 1/2 in FPT inline reduction. Compatible media include air, water, oil, natural gas, and steam per manufacturer rating.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable codes such as the International Plumbing Code (IPC) or International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC) for gas service. Depressurize and isolate the line completely before removing any existing fittings or threading on this coupling. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads mating to this fitting, following sealant manufacturer instructions for the specific media in service. Do not overtighten; hand-snug plus wrench turns per standard NPT practice is sufficient to achieve a leak-free seal without damaging the threads.
