The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 63432MS is a reducing coupling designed to connect two female NPT pipe threads of different sizes - 3/8 in on one end and 1/4 in on the other. Built from 316 stainless steel, this fitting resists corrosion in demanding environments including chemical exposure, moisture, and salt. The 150 lb pressure class rating makes it suitable for moderate-pressure fluid and gas piping systems. The 3/8-18 x 1/4-18 thread specification conforms to standard NPT taper thread dimensions. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors use this fitting where a pipe run must step down from 3/8 in to 1/4 in female thread without a union or nipple in between.
This reducing coupling is used in residential and light commercial piping applications where 316 stainless steel is specified for corrosion resistance. Typical install scenarios include instrumentation lines, chemical service piping, food and beverage equipment, marine plumbing, and any wet or corrosive environment where carbon steel or brass fittings are not appropriate. It belongs to the Midland SP-114 Fittings series, a line of 316 stainless steel pipe fittings covering a range of configurations and sizes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-install fitting for 3/8 in Female NPT to 1/4 in Female NPT reducing applications in 316 stainless steel piping systems rated to 150 lb pressure class.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter following applicable IPC or IFGC code requirements for the service type. Isolate and depressurize the line completely before removing any existing fitting or installing this coupling. Apply a compatible thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service fluid to the male threads mating into this fitting. Do not overtighten; use a pipe wrench with appropriate jaw padding to avoid deforming the stainless steel hex body.
