The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 63431 is a 150 lb reducing coupling designed to connect two female pipe thread (FPT) ports of different sizes in a single inline fitting. It steps down from a 3/8-18 NPT thread on one end to a 1/8-27 NPT thread on the other, allowing technicians to reduce line size without additional adapters. Constructed from 316 stainless steel, this fitting delivers strong corrosion resistance in demanding service environments. It is rated for use with air, water, oil, natural gas, and steam, making it a versatile choice across HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical piping systems. Plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians install this fitting as part of instrumentation takeoffs, pressure port connections, and supply line reductions.
This reducing coupling is suited for both residential and light commercial applications where a compact, corrosion-resistant FPT-to-FPT size reduction is needed. Typical install scenarios include gas supply piping, compressed air distribution, hydraulic oil lines, steam service headers, and water treatment plumbing. Its small footprint makes it practical in tight spaces where a larger fitting body would be a problem. The 150 lb pressure class rating aligns with standard low-to-medium pressure piping systems common in mechanical rooms and equipment connections.
Rated for use with air, water, oil, natural gas, and steam service lines. Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 150 lb class piping systems using 3/8 in and 1/8 in NPT female thread connections.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers, pipefitters, or qualified HVAC technicians in accordance with applicable codes such as the IPC and IFGC. Shut off and depressurize the line completely before removing or installing any fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service media before threading the fitting into place. Do not overtighten threaded connections, as stainless steel fittings can gall if excessive force is applied.
