The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 62744 is a reducing hex nipple designed to connect two threaded pipe ends of different sizes in a straight-line configuration. The larger end measures 1/2 in MPT and the smaller end measures 1/4 in MPT, following a 1/2-14 x 1/4-18 thread specification per ASME B1.20.1. Constructed from 304 stainless steel, this fitting is rated at 150 psi and offers corrosion resistance suitable for demanding service environments. Plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians install this type of fitting when reducing pipe size is needed within a pressurized system without adding additional coupling hardware.
The 62744 is suited for use in residential and commercial piping systems carrying air, water, oil, natural gas, or steam. Its compact hex body allows for standard wrench engagement during installation and removal. At 1.4 inches in length with a 0.85-inch height and width profile, it fits into tight spaces common in equipment rooms, mechanical chases, and utility installations. The 150 psi pressure rating and stainless steel construction make it appropriate for both low-pressure utility lines and moderate-pressure process applications.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 150-pound rated threaded pipe systems using 1/2 in and 1/4 in male pipe thread connections in air, water, oil, natural gas, and steam service.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter following applicable IPC or IFGC code requirements for the fluid or gas being conveyed. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly. Do not overtighten, as stainless steel threads can gall; use a calibrated torque wrench or follow the fitting manufacturer guidelines for thread engagement.
