The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 62447MS is a reducing coupling designed to connect two female NPT pipe ends of different sizes in a single fitting. The larger port accepts 1-1/2-inch Female NPT (1-1/2-11-1/2 thread) and the smaller port accepts 1/2-inch Female NPT (1/2-14 thread), making it a straightforward solution for stepping down pipe diameter within a pressurized line. Constructed from 304 stainless steel, the fitting is rated for a 150 lb pressure class. It measures approximately 2.35 inches in length and width and 2.15 inches in height, with a shipping weight of 0.71 pounds. Plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting when reducing flow path diameter between two threaded pipe runs.
This reducing coupling is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing, process piping, and fluid-handling systems where a transition from a 1-1/2-inch line to a 1/2-inch line is required. The 304 stainless steel construction makes it appropriate for applications that require corrosion resistance, such as water supply lines, compressed air systems, and similar installations where carbon steel fittings would not be suitable. It is part of the SP-114 Fittings series from Midland Industries.
Designed as a standard SP-114 series 304 stainless steel reducing coupling compatible with 1-1/2 in and 1/2 in Female NPT threaded pipe systems rated at 150 lb pressure class.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or qualified pipefitters. Depressurize and drain the line completely before removing any existing fittings or installing this coupling. Apply appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male NPT threads being engaged, following the pipe thread assembly practices outlined in applicable plumbing codes such as the IPC. Do not overtighten; hand-tight plus a standard wrench turns is the typical assembly method for threaded stainless fittings to avoid galling.
