The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 62440B1 is a barstock reducing coupling machined from 304 stainless steel and rated to 1000 lb pressure class. It connects a 1-inch female pipe thread (FPT) inlet to a 3/8-inch FPT outlet, following 1-11-1/2 x 3/8-18 thread specifications. This fitting is designed for inline pipe size reduction in plumbing, mechanical, and industrial piping systems. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this type of fitting when transitioning between two different pipe diameters on the same run. The 304 stainless steel construction resists corrosion and stands up to demanding service conditions across a wide range of media.
The 62440B1 is suited for use in residential, commercial, and light industrial piping applications. It is approved for service with air, water, oil, natural gas, and steam, making it a versatile option across multiple trade disciplines. The 1000 lb pressure class rating qualifies it for higher-demand systems where standard 150 lb brass or iron fittings would be undersized. Plumbers and pipefitters working on steam or gas distribution lines commonly select stainless barstock couplings where corrosion resistance and pressure rating are both required.
Designed as a standard barstock reducing coupling for 1000 lb and above stainless steel piping systems requiring a 1-inch to 3/8-inch FPT reduction. Compatible media include air, water, oil, natural gas, and steam per manufacturer specification.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable mechanical and plumbing codes. Shut off and depressurize the piping system completely before removing or installing any fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service media before making up the joint. Inspect threads on both the fitting and mating pipe for damage before assembly.
