The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 59075SMLS is a seamless black steel pipe nipple rated for Schedule 80 service. It connects two 1/2-inch male pipe thread (MPT) fittings and measures 11 inches in overall length with a 0.78-inch threaded engagement on each end. The wall thickness of 0.147 inches and a pressure class of 300 lb give this nipple a working pressure rating of 850 psi, making it well suited for higher-pressure gas, steam, and fluid distribution lines. Thread form conforms to ANSI B1.20.1. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this fitting in black iron gas piping systems and industrial fluid lines where Schedule 40 wall thickness is insufficient.
This nipple is used in residential and commercial black iron gas distribution piping, as well as in industrial compressed air and hydronic heating systems that require extra-heavy wall construction. The seamless construction eliminates a weld seam, reducing the risk of stress concentration in high-pressure or high-cycle applications. It is appropriate for systems operating within a temperature range of -200 degrees F to 150 degrees F. Mechanical contractors and plumbers specify SCH 80 seamless nipples when local codes or system design pressures exceed the limits of standard Schedule 40 fittings.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting compatible with standard 1/2-inch NPT threaded pipe, valves, and fittings used in black iron gas and industrial fluid piping systems.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters in accordance with applicable local mechanical and fuel gas codes, including IFGC and IPC requirements. Shut off and depressurize the supply line completely before removing or installing any threaded pipe fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service fluid before making up the joint hand-tight and then wrench-tight. Do not over-tighten, as this can crack fittings or distort threads on adjoining components.
