The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 59050SMLS is a seamless Schedule 80 black steel pipe nipple with 3/8-inch male pipe thread (MPT) connections on both ends. At 6 inches in length, it provides a short, rigid extension between threaded fittings in gas, steam, or liquid piping systems. The SCH 80 wall thickness of 0.126 inches supports a pressure class of 300 lb and a rated working pressure of 850 psi, making it suitable for higher-pressure applications where standard Schedule 40 is insufficient. Plumbers and pipefitters install this nipple in commercial and industrial settings as well as residential gas and water lines where code or system pressure demands heavier wall pipe.
This nipple is used in black iron gas distribution piping, steam heating systems, compressed air lines, and industrial fluid systems. Its black steel finish is the standard for natural gas and propane supply piping in residential and light commercial applications. The 3/8-18 thread form conforms to ANSI B1.20.1, ensuring compatibility with standard NPT fittings and valves across major manufacturers. It is well suited for runs requiring a close or short nipple where a welded or seamless construction is preferred for pressure integrity.
Designed as a standard ANSI B1.20.1 NPT threaded replacement nipple for Schedule 80 black steel piping systems using 3/8-inch threaded fittings, valves, and couplings.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters in accordance with applicable local codes, the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC), or the International Plumbing Code (IPC) depending on the service. Shut off and depressurize the line completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service medium to all male threads before assembly. Do not over-torque threaded connections; hand-tighten and then use a pipe wrench for a snug, leak-free joint without stressing the fitting.
