The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 59042SMLS is a seamless Schedule 80 black steel pipe nipple designed for threaded piping systems in plumbing, gas distribution, and industrial fluid handling applications. It features male pipe thread (MPT) connections on both ends sized at 3/8 inch, with a 3/8-18 thread specification per ANSI B1.20.1. The seamless construction and SCH 80 wall thickness of 0.126 inches give this nipple a pressure rating of 850 psi and a 300 lb pressure class, making it suitable for higher-pressure service where standard Schedule 40 fittings would be undersized. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and industrial maintenance mechanics are the primary installers.
This nipple is suited for residential and commercial gas piping, steam lines, and compressed air or hydraulic systems where black steel fittings are specified. At 2 inches in length and 3/8 inch nominal diameter, it serves as a close-to-short extension or transition connector between threaded components. The black finish is standard for gas distribution piping and is compatible with typical pipe dope and PTFE tape thread sealants approved for gas service. It is rated for a temperature range of -200 to 150 degrees F, accommodating most common above-ground and below-slab mechanical system conditions.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 80 black steel threaded piping systems using 3/8 inch NPT connections, conforming to ANSI B1.20.1 dimensional standards.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters. The system must be depressurized and isolated before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply a thread sealant rated for the intended service medium - gas, steam, or water - to the male threads prior to assembly. Tighten to hand-tight plus the appropriate number of turns per IFGC or IPC guidelines for the pipe size; do not overtighten, as this can crack fittings or distort threads.
