The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 57400GBS is a seamless steel pipe nipple designed for industrial and commercial piping systems where a grooved-to-beveled end transition is required. Built to Schedule 40 wall thickness, this nipple provides a reliable, pressure-rated connection in black steel pipe assemblies. At 3 inches in length with an 8-inch nominal diameter, it suits short-run connections between grooved-end couplings and beveled-end flanges or weld fittings. The operating temperature range of -200 to 150 degrees F makes it suitable for a broad range of fluid handling applications. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers of this fitting in mechanical, fire protection, and process piping work.
This fitting is used in commercial and industrial piping installations where black Schedule 40 steel pipe is specified. The grooved end accepts standard grooved mechanical couplings, while the beveled end is prepared for butt-weld or flange connections. Typical applications include HVAC hydronic systems, fire suppression mains, and general industrial fluid conveyance. It is suited for systems operating within the rated temperature range and where SCH 40 wall thickness meets the design pressure requirements of the system.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for black Schedule 40 steel pipe systems using grooved mechanical coupling assemblies on one end and butt-weld or beveled-end connections on the other, in 8-inch nominal pipe size configurations.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local mechanical and plumbing codes. De-pressurize and drain the system fully before removing or installing any pipe nipple. The grooved end requires a properly sized mechanical coupling and gasket seated to the manufacturer groove specification. The beveled end should be inspected for weld-prep cleanliness before welding or flange make-up.
